On the evening of January 18, 2024, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Club Assembly meeting at Hotel Alexandra, marking a significant event for RCHKNP members in the New Year. The AGM was chaired by PDG CP Eric Chin, during which two key items were confirmed: the club’s audited account for the year ending June 30, 2022, and the election of President Peter Long and President-Elect Kenneth Chan for the Rotary Year 2024-2025.
The Club Assembly meeting was then kicked off and chaired by PE Peter Long. Committee chairs were invited to present progress reports on their respective duties for the first half of the Rotary Year and outline plans for the remaining six months. PP Carlos Tam provided an update on Club Membership, highlighting key findings and recommendations from the Club Member Interest Survey 2023. PN Kenneth Chan presented an overview of Local Community Service projects, which included a diverse range of initiatives such as “Embrace Diversity at Wellness Manor”, “Premiere of ‘Love Never Ends’”, “Youth Zone Morning Breakfast”, “NAAC Household Supplies and TV sets Donation”, “Sponsorship of Charity Music Show”, and “Sponsorship of InnoPET STAR Competition”. Rtn Anne Loh updated the assembly on International Service projects, including the “Mangrove Restoration Project in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka” and “Donation to Support Relief after Torrential Rain Ulaanbaatar”. PE Peter Long reported on the progress of Preserve Planet Earth (PPE) events and activities, with a particular focus on the visit to O-Park1. He also represented several committee chairs to report on other areas, including the Rotary Foundation, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Public Image, Youth Services, and Fellowship events.
PDG CP Eric Chin subsequently provided a comprehensive report on the Signature Club Service Project, The 11th Rookie Star Street Dance Contest. The event, held on November 18, 2023, at the CCC Kwei Wah Shan College, attracted over 300 participants and concluded successfully amidst a lively atmosphere. The event garnered significant attention from various social media outlets, highlighting its meaningful impact. The event was graced by the presence of Rotary International President Godon McInally, DG Andy Li, PDG Wilson Cheng, our honorary member Hon. Jeffrey Lam, GBM, GBS, JP, Mr. Nick Chan, Nick Chan, MH, JP who is serving Hong Kong Deputy to the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China. Our school Partner Principal Ringo Wong, CCC Kwei Wah Shan College, Ms. Shirley Yip, Li Sing Tai Hang School. Principal Yip also shared her observation on how our Rookie Star Street Dance training inspired her school students and the Contest enlightened their students team work and discipline and had fun.
The assembly also celebrated the birthdays of January-born members, including PE Peter Long and Rtn Rose Spence, in the company of guests. The meeting adjourned at around 9:30 pm, after which many members and guests continued to network in an informal setting. This event underscored the club’s dedication to nurturing a robust community spirit and fellowship among its members.
The next monthly meeting will be held on 22 Feb 2024 and speaker will be Mr. Roy Ng, Member of General Council of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, PP of RC The Peak. His topic of talk will be Clarity Medical Group/ Eye Center Business Overview – From Investment to Listing.
