Mid-Autumn in Hong Kong is about family reunion. Yet, after recent waves of emigration, many elderly residents in Lok Wah Estate eat their festival meals alone.
On 20 September 2025, nine members, Rotaractors and friends from the Rotary Club of Hong Kong North Point joined hands with Amigos in Kwun Tong to change that. We packed 100 festive food bags, then split into a home-visit team and a games team. Thirty households welcomed our volunteers into cramped but carefully kept flats. Conversation flowed, mooncakes were shared, and the sight of our young and overseas Rotaractors brought wide smiles and requests for “please come again”. In the community hall, 70 more seniors enjoyed Tai Chi, Kung Fu demonstrations by PDG CP Eric Chin and simple group games that filled the room with laughter. For a few hours, hunger and loneliness eased. Neighbours greeted one another, and elders felt seen and remembered.
As Rotarians, we know a bag of food is important, but the real gift is time, respect and human connection. Together, we fight hunger of both body and heart.
