PPE Event: Waste Recycling Project on 18 Dec 2022

Co-organized by Rotary Club of HK North Point and Futurekids Computer Learning Center, the purpose of this PPE project is to recycle the waste (i.e., software boxes, CDs and papers, etc.), and on the other hand, participate a guided Tour at Green@Wanchai (also called Wanchai Recycling Station). The project in charge was PPE Chair Peter Long and Mr. Ivan Chin.
We had total 10 participants (Rotary Club members and their family members) supporting this meaningful project, including PDG CP Eric Chin, Mrs. Christine Chin, Mr. Ivan Chin, P Peter Pang, PPE Chair Peter Long, RAC P Joyce Ma, Interact P Utsab Limbu, RTN Rose Spence, RTN Vicky Wong and RTN Annie Jian. A total of 25 labour-hour services was recorded on 18 Dec 2022 and an additional 40 labour-hour of pre-packing preparation work was done by Christine and Ivan. As a result, we successfully contributed 100Kg wastes for recycling at Green@Wanchai. A certificate of appreciation was received from Green@Wanchai in return to recognize our effort in this project.
The staff at Wanchai Recycling Station had then briefly explained the operation of the facility in which it accepts eight common types of recyclables, including paper, metals, plastics, glass bottles, regulated electrical equipment, small electrical appliances, fluorescent lamps and tubes, and rechargeable batteries. The recyclables collected would be sorted and then delivered to the downstream recyclers for subsequent processing. Apart from the daily waste recycling operation, regular workshop will also be held to promote environmental protection and sustainability. All the participants had been inspired by the operation of this community recycling facility and we believe it can help to increase the environmental awareness of the public, and to gradually integrate the practice of waste reduction and recycling into daily life.
